Cochlear implant issues for children is the topic of this first issue of Volume 8 of the Division 9 newsletter. The evolving criteria for candidacy for cochlear implantation is considered by four members of the cochlear implant team from Boys Town National Research Hospital who provide a case study of a child who received an implant at 10 years of age. Four parents of children with hearing loss present their considerations in making the decision to obtain or not obtain an implant for their children. Dawna Lewis then presents manufacturer information on coupling FM systems to cochlear implants and Linda Thibodeau presents a list of internet sites that have relevant information on cochlear implants.
