Welcome to Special Interest Group (SIG) 9, Hearing and Hearing Disorders in Childhood. On behalf of the Coordinating Committee, I welcome our new and returning affiliates. Thank you for joining our group. I'd like to start by acknowledging our Coordinating Committee: Velvet Buehler, speech-language pathologist (SLP)/audiologist from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville; Gina Gomez, educational audiologist in the Arlington Public School District in Virginia; and Patti Martin, audiologist at Arkansas Children's Hospital. In 2011, the group was joined by Melody Harrison, SLP from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill; Melody is serving as Associate Coordinator. Our group would not be complete without our wonderful editor, Jace Wolfe, audiologist at Hearts for Hearing. Jace always outdoes himself, providing our group with cutting edge knowledge from experts in the field. I am also pleased to announce that Aneesha Pretto, SLP at Auditory Verbal Center, Inc., assists Jace with our Perspectives. Much appreciation is extended to Gayla Hutsell Guignard, our past Coordinator, who gave much of her time and energy to this group to advocate for childhood hearing issues within ASHA, as well as outside. Thank you, Gayla, for your leadership; you are amazing! Finally, I want to acknowledge Kerry Chmielenski from the ASHA National Office, our ex officio who provides guidance and assistance with the many projects we do throughout the year. The SIG 9 Coordinating Committee is here to guide your SIG, but to do this we need to hear from you. There are many ways you can connect with us and affiliates of SIG 9; call us; e-mail us; or use our exclusive SIG 9 E-mail List, SIG 9 Affiliates-Only Web Forum, and/or the ASHA's Facebook page. To learn about these communication tools, please visit our pages on the ASHA Web site (www.asha.org/SIG/9).
