It has been a pleasure to serve Special Interest Group (SIG) 9, Hearing and Hearing Disorders in Childhood, for the past 3 years. When I became Coordinator in 2011, Prince William married Catherine Middleton in London, Osama bin Laden was announced dead, and the first solar powered spacecraft, Juno, was on a mission to Jupiter. We, also, were transitioning from Special Interest Divisions to SIGs, we published the last issue of Perspectives on Audiology on “Quality” across the audiology SIGs, and the convention theme was “Beacons of Inspiration: Innovation to Action”.
In 2012, Encyclopedia Britannica discontinued its print edition (244 years), London hosted the Summer Olympics, and Curiosity successfully landed on Mars. With 2012 being a leap year, I also got an extra day as Coordinator of SIG 9 and the ASHA Convention theme was “Evidence of Excellence: Opportunities and Outcomes”.
